Calculation Methodology & Legal Basis

Analyzes the ratio of basic wage to total compensation. Under best practices and UAE labor court jurisprudence, basic salary should comprise 50%–60% of total package. An artificially low basic salary (e.g. 20%) severely depresses statutory gratuity, annual leave pay, and overtime rights.

Worked Example

For an offer of AED 15,000: A 60/40 split gives Basic AED 9,000 (yielding AED 63,000 gratuity after 5 years). A 30/70 split gives Basic AED 4,500 (yielding only AED 31,500 gratuity — a loss of AED 31,500).

While the law does not specify a mandatory percentage, MOHRE scrutinizes contracts with absurdly low basic wages (e.g. 20% or less) intended solely to evade end-of-service liabilities.
